Christine Alder
Chris is an artist skilled with the contrasting and complementary mediums of pastel, acrylic paint, coloured pencil and pen. Her preferred subjects are animals, fish, birds and bugs, particularly those native to Australia. Having recently moved to Adelaide, she plans to focus on wildlife endemic to South Australia.
Chris represents her subjects with realism, but also expresses their uniqueness through dialogues with light, reflection and colour, often with an overlay of emotion or humour. Recent subjects have been chosen because they are unknown (red-necked avocet), unloved (blue-ringed octopus and red-bellied black snake), critically endangered (Leadbeater’s possum) or an Australian icon (Murray cod). Through her art she has become increasingly appreciative of the natural world, and hopes her works might be enjoyed similarly by others.
