Helena Kookaburra
I’m a self-taught neurodivergent artist who paints emotions via colour and stroke. I started painting to recover from severe caregiver burnout in 2022, and have not stopped since.
Painting allows me to present, process and transmute emotions, thoughts and feelings that are a lot more intense than they are for others, and difficult to express in words. The world is often a confusing place for me, and I make sense of it through painting.
My hope is to share, through my paintings, my way (a different way) of seeing and experiencing a neurodivergent person’s inner world.
I imagine that seeing this can open up increased understanding of disability and neurodivergence, and ultimately, through that increased understanding, create a more inclusive world.
