Putting a paintbrush on canvas ignites a spark within me. Just a glimpse of my pieces reveals my inspiration drawn vividly from nature and the exotic journeys I’ve undertaken across the globe. From each adventure, I strive to carry a memory home, whether it’s the vibrant birdlife, fragrant blooms, or even tiny insects – all finding their unique place on my canvas, brought to life through an explosion of colour and texture.
My abstract works are crafted with acrylics or alcohol inks using a technique I call ‘flow-fusion.’ This method draws from the organic nature of liquid paint, embracing the fluidity created as different colours intertwine. I also experiment with pouring paints onto the canvas, manipulating them through various methods, including gravity, to achieve beautiful marbling effects and other unique finishes.
Inspiration envelops me from life and movement – the array of visuals and the emotions that swirl within me. Through my abstract expressionist style, I let the paint guide me into the unknown. My work bursts forth with colour and emotion, showcasing the dynamics of life through the movement of abstract forms and their rich palettes.
Creating and experiencing visual art has thrilled me since childhood. After nearly two decades of painting, my intuition guides me; I rarely begin with a set subject in mind. Drawing from the natural beauty of my local surroundings in the southern Fleurieu Peninsula, I fill the canvas with vibrant colours and textures, patiently awaiting the imagery to emerge. Each process is a unique journey.
