Artist Statement Hi everyone, my name is Tara Zhu, an emerging watercolour artist with a background in architecture from the University of Adelaide and the China Academy of Art. Having spent most of my life studying sketching and drawing, I discovered my passion for watercolour two years ago and have since dedicated myself to mastering this expressive medium.
What captivates me about watercolour is its fluidity—the way pigments blend and move freely, creating unexpected and organic visual effects. This unique characteristic allows me to bring depth and atmosphere to my work. My current focus is capturing urban landscapes, iconic architecture in Adelaide, and the distinctive cultural essence of South Australia. Through watercolour, I aim to express my admiration for the region’s charm, from its historic buildings to its vibrant streets and coastal scenery.
