Monika Morgenstern’s art delves deeply into the idea of the numinous in an ethereal and atmospheric abstract manner and she invites you to an encounter with the unknown.
Colour and its perceptual potency have been a longstanding preoccupation in Morgenstern’s work and she is interested in exploring it as a carrier of meaning with explicit reference to concepts of the spiritual and the ‘blur’.
Inspired by the German philosophical tradition of the ineffable, her work investigates colour as a gateway to the unknown. In particular, the communicative power and ethereal states of colour in different forms of matter. Colour is presented as a luminous image in solid form and through veils of glass. The effect is immersive and provides a highly sensory experience for audiences.
Monika Morgenstern is a finalist in The Advertiser Contemporary Art Award, and one of her works is featured in the finalist exhibition for this award at Keith Murdoch House.
