A debut solo exhibition of watercolour portraits by Hayley Anne Carpenter, creator, owner and artist behind portraitsbyhayley. For the last 3 years portraitsbyhayley has been primarily a commission based practice. This is the first time personal artworks will be showcased, all expressing self motivated subject matter; human emotions, connection and the messiness of it all. The bodies within each piece have been covered in a 'grounding'- dirt, clay and sand. While watercolour is the primary medium the naturally sourced pigments from each reference have also been used to paint with. Fluid and gritty backgrounds contrast against the realism of the portraits. A visual nod illuminating the realness of the human experience and all the ups and downs that challenge, delight and ultimately bind us. The only way is through.
