My Tree Project (MTP)
Exhibition
The My Tree Project began from 11-year-old Maxim sitting in his mulberry tree. He told his grandmother, artist Lara Lamnek, how he always felt energetic and creative in his tree. She took this idea to the Western Adelaide Coastal Residents' Association (WACRA) and the Australian Association for Environmental Education (AAEE), and in 2021 the My Tree Project (MTP) was born.
This project is now in its second iteration (2023-24). MTP enables children to play an active role in dealing with the challenges of climate change by growing endemic trees and understory plants, as well as creating artworks. In 2023-24, two high schools as well as two primary schools are involved. The project is currently focused on the western suburbs as they need more canopy.
