The project stems from my passion for architecture and my desire to preserve the memory of a city where I have lived, studied, and remained deeply connected for much of my life. This photographic work, strictly documentary in nature, was carried out in the atmosphere of a typical winter’s day—dimly lit, devoid of people, and marked by the persistent presence of emptiness.

Typologies draws inspiration from Bernd and Hilla Becher's writings and conceptual work, whose theoretical reflections greatly influenced my approach.

I learned the art of photography in 1976, alongside the art of architecture. Over a career spanning four decades, my personal and multifaceted interests have evolved into an exploration of the interaction between photography, conceptual art, and architecture.

Venice, a “taxonomic” documentary project, evokes the spirit of Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity), distancing itself from conventional photography's expressionist and subjective tendencies. Instead, it focuses on the formal qualities of the city's architecture, offering the viewer an analytical, interpretive, comparative, and relational perspective on its various typologies.

The power of its forms and plastic values is stripped of any frivolous interpretation; in its sculptural totality, the rigorous repetition of architectural motifs boldly asserts their iconographic significance.

The mystery of the stones that elevate this unique and marvellous city is not a matter of magic, but of magical art—stones that still hold their pride, not out of necessity, but through the enduring force of a history that refuses to surrender.
