When artist Catherine Fitz-Gerald asked, “If your fabric could speak what stories would it tell?” she was overwhelmed with stories of making, culture, family, learning, celebration, loss, and remembrance.

Catherine chose 18 of the most memorable stories and turned them into a 30-minute film called “If fabrics could speak….” The film is captioned in English and contains stories in English, Auslan, and Mandarin and from First Nations, migrants, teenagers and elders. It was awarded the 2024 Adelaide Fringe Visual Art and Design Award as well as the 2024 SALA UnitCare Services Digital Media Award.

The Bobbin Tree by Inspirations is proud to become part of this continuing story about the role fabric plays in our lives. At this one-off event we will present the film and invite attendees to bring a favourite fabric item along to share in the “If fabrics could speak…” sharing circle afterwards.

Bring your own treasured fabric, your knitting, weaving, felt, embroidery, sewing project, cultural or family fabric and share their stories in a yarning circle with Catherine.

Tea and refreshments will be served. Space is limited. Book your seat at https://thebobbintree.com.au/workshops/
