“Nothing Is Linear” is a deeply personal and powerfully communal exhibition led by South Australian artist Claire Foord, in collaboration with two of her children, Ada and Archibald Foord-Heath.
Spanning generations, media, and emotional terrains, this exhibition is a meditation on creativity unbound — the kind that flows freely through children, before the world teaches it to conform. Through works created in tandem with her children, Claire invites us into a space where artistic instinct is unfiltered, joyful, and vulnerable. Alongside this, her own celebrated practice offers counterpoints of discipline and refinement. The installation — a poignant response to grief and child loss — anchors the show in emotional resonance and reflection.
At its heart, “Nothing Is Linear” asks: what happens when we stop trying to colour inside the lines? Visitors are invited to participate directly by making their mark on a collective canvas, which Claire will evolve into a future artwork — a testament to shared expression.
This is art as process, healing, and invitation — blurring lines between artist and audience, child and adult, grief and creation. It is a celebration of life’s unruly paths and the creative voices we’re all born with.

Workshop Make Your Mark - Paint and Sip.
09 Aug 01:30pm - Join South Australian artist and educator Claire Foord for an intimate, hands-on workshop among the grapevines at Little Alfies. Inspired by her SALA exhibition, “Nothing is Linear”, this exclusive experience invites you to explore instinctive mark-making art in a relaxed vineyard setting. With only 10 places available, guests will enjoy: - An artist lead painting session, - All materials (canvas, paints, tools), a glass or two of local wine and curated nibbles. In addition, enjoy a closed exhibition guided tour of “Nothing is Linear” and open Q&A with the artist. No experience necessary - just a willingness to create freely and without rules.
There are no rules here: just mark-making, movement, colour, and permission to be part of something evolving and alive. The resulting piece will be developed into a future work, shaped by the many hands that touched it.
