In this evocative exhibition, Nostalgia Sewn, Stitched & Beaded, artist Lily Adelaide Upton invites viewers into a world where memory and materiality merge through hand embroidery, sewing and beadwork. Drawing on a practice grounded in slow, tactile creation, she reimagines personal and collective nostalgia through textile art. Her work honours the meditative rhythm of making, while highlighting the technical skill, patience, and creative vision required in crafts that have historically been dismissed as merely practical or domestic.

Across the exhibition, delicate threads and shimmering beads capture moments suspended between past and present. By centring techniques traditionally practised by women, Lily challenges the long-standing undervaluing of these creative mediums, asserting their complexity and cultural significance. For generations, women have expressed creativity through practices that were also expected to be productive or practical, embedding artistry within labour. This body of work reframes those traditions as powerful forms of expression, where memory, and identity are stitched into every surface.

Through richly textured compositions, Lily creates a space for quiet contemplation and recognition where each stitch and bead becomes both an act of remembrance and a reclaiming of craft as art.
