Communities of the former Ballarat Asylum—a triptych of giant sequoia in silent witness, disrupting sanism. The 145 year old redwood trees at the site of the former Ballarat Asylum provide a judgement-free safe harbour for patients. Sanism is prejudice against those with mental difference and/or distress that often comes from unconscious stigma and stereotyping. The focus on the giant sequoia in silent witness filters the sanism often present in human actors. Included in this exhibition is the triptych of the Sierra redwoods (giant sequoia) and other tree disruptor/witnessing portrayals, such as the magnificent rainbow and scribbly gums. All paintings are mixed media on Saunders Waterford Cold Pressed 100% cotton, 56 x 76cm, archival paper.
