Peak to Peak and Still Climbing explores the strange and exhilarating experience of growth. In life, creative practice, and understanding the world, we often imagine that progress will eventually lead to a final summit: a place where things finally make sense, where effort gives way to clarity, and where the journey can pause.
But the reality is different.
The Bearded Dragon Gallery (BDG), a social enterprise of CBS Inc., provides a platform and inclusive space for those historically excluded from traditional artistic spaces. Since 2018, BDG has been supporting SA artists with disability and mental health challenges to exhibit, develop, and share their work. This year, BDG is partnering with Specialised Assistance School for Youth (SASY) to bring together emerging artists exploring growth, perspective, and creative expression across different lived experiences.
Each time we reach a peak, whether it is a personal breakthrough, a creative discovery, or a new way of seeing the world, we gain perspective. The horizon widens. From that vantage point, we realise the landscape is far larger than we first imagined, and in the distance, another summit waits.
Rather than seeing this as exhausting or futile, Peak to Peak and Still Climbing embraces the endless nature of curiosity, learning, and becoming. Growth is not a straight line toward completion, but a series of peaks, valleys, pauses, and unexpected paths. The climb itself becomes the meaningful part.
The works in this exhibition exist in that in-between space: between achievement and anticipation, reflection and momentum. They capture moments where understanding shifts, where confidence wavers, and where humour and persistence carry us forward. Some works reflect the thrill of gaining new perspective; others sit in the uncertainty of the next ascent.
To climb is to remain curious.
To reach one peak is simply to see further.
Peak to Peak and Still Climbing celebrates the joy, absurdity, resilience, and persistence of the climb, and the idea that the journey of becoming never truly ends.
