Shaping Islands, Shaping Stories brings together my evolving sculptural practice—papier‑mâché Gond‑inspired forms, rooted in the Indigenous tribal art traditions of central India, and narrative bas‑relief works shaped by memory, pattern, and folk rhythm. This exhibition offers an intimate look at the worlds I build through paper, clay, and story, tracing the threads that connect land, imagination, and lived experience.
Open Studio Demonstration: 15–16 August
On selected open studio days, I welcome visitors into my home studio to experience the slow, meditative process behind my papier-mâché sculpture making. These informal demonstrations offer a close look at how forms are shaped, layered, and painted, revealing the material curiosity and narrative sensibility at the heart of my practice.
Shaping Islands in Clay: 22–23 August
This free, unstructured community activity invites participants aged 8+ to create small clay islands alongside me. Be a part of a new, community‑inclusive art project by joining this island‑making activity. It forms part of an early‑stage project exploring how climate change is affecting Australia’s 8,200 islands, developed in collaboration with Catherine Fitz‑Gerald and Swapna Namboodiri. These informal, supervised sessions offer space to think with our hands, reflect on vulnerable island environments, and contribute to a growing collective installation.
Clay Ganesha Idol Making Workshop: 29 August
In this hands-on cultural workshop, participants aged 8 and above will create an 8-inch eco-friendly terracotta Ganesha idol using simple clay-building techniques. Rebirth of Nature with Plant Ganesha invites us to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi sustainably by shaping an idol from clay and planting a seed within it. This gentle, creative activity encourages environmental awareness while honoring tradition, offering a meaningful way to connect art, culture, and care for the earth.
