Tom POWELL
Exhibition
Adelaide based mixed media sculptor Tom Powell likes to get a bit weird and messy, and every few years he draws back the curtain to give the rest of us a peek. With a warped sense of anatomy coupled to a vision of nature distorted, his work often explores themes of speculative evolution intersected with the uncanny and visceral. For this series, Tom has envisioned a new phylum of creatures that share both animal and fungal traits: Gribblies. These range from small and timid Globules to large and voracious Masticators and have evolved to fill a variety of ecological niches. Plus, most exciting of all, during this exclusive exhibition the public will have the rare opportunity to buy a Gribbly of their own; and hear original music from Tom’s band, No Basis, who will be performing at the Saturday August 22nd launch event.
