Exhibition, Artist Talk
Dan Monceaux presents a retrospective of his marine environmental artworks, spanning the years 2009 to the present. The video works will show on the venue's large screen displays, with selected photographs also displayed in the venue. The body of work represents South Australia's iconic, spectacular, colourful and diverse marine life from a time of abundance, before the harmful algal bloom of 2025. A celebration of beauty, wonder and vitality, the exhibition evokes a sense of love, loss, nostalgia and hope as it answers the question: "What was it like, before the harmful algal bloom?". A large-scale sculptural work, loosely resembling an octopus or a brittle star, entitled "Is it safe?" (previously installed on beaches and in galleries) will also feature. An artist talk will also be held at the opening event, where Dan will talk about the making of his works, show his equipment and share insights into the motivation and inspiration behind his work.
