Artists exhibit fascinating light paintings, photographed from parts of their central artworks about South Australia.
Light painting is the art of creating photos by setting long exposure times on a camera and using a moving light source to paint. In this exhibition, we've innovated on this technique, by keeping the light source stationary to create amazing effects.
Melissa Nursey-Bray presents a stunning photographic image of the Gawler Ranges National Park, country for the Barngala, Kokotha and Wiangu peoples entitled “Not Lonely”. Deserts are too often seen as barren, desolate places without people, but the contrary is true. Both the human and non-human connect in this landscape in eternal and diverse ways: the desert is a thriving, rich and wondrous place. Melissa’s work seeks to present the wonder, energy and colour of a landscape that - far from being lonely - connects people to country - and each other - in the deepest way. Four light art images, that used the photo as a base, provide snapshots into the intricacies of desert life, and the spirit ever present residing within it.
Yvonne Pearson is presenting a magnificent large abstract artwork, an original layered acrylic pour painting titled 'Great Southern Land', highlighting the colours, light and energy of South Australia. Yvonne is also exhibiting four smaller original abstract light painting photographs taken from parts of her painting 'Great Southern Land' titled (1) Drought Breaker, Goyder's Line SA (2) Where there's Smoke there's Fire, Adelaide Hills SA (3) Coastal Desert Heat, Ceduna SA (4) Last Rays of Sun before Sundown, Brighton Beach SA. The use of Light Painting revealed hidden light from the metallic paints and background colours used by Yvonne when creating 'Great Southern Land', resulting in original innovative abstract photographs with South Australian themes.
